DESCRIPTION:On Saturday August 27\, Troop 355 will be summiting Mt. Baden-Powell.  This is a classic hike; the trail up Baden-Powell is known to be one of the best trails ever constructed in Southern California – 41 evenly spaced switchbacks going up 2800 feet\, to the summit at 9400 feet.  On the summit ridge we will pass spectacular 1000 year old limber pines\, and on the summit is the famous Boy Scout monument.  From the top are views of the entire San Gabriel range\, plus there is a good chance of seeing gliders from Crystalaire Airport flying above.  The hike is 8 miles roundtrip – we will have the option of making it a 10 mile hike by hiking an additional 2.2 miles roundtrip to the nearby summit of Mt. Burnham. \nWe will meet at the Scout House at 6 a.m. sharp on Saturday morning and divide into carpools.  If you would rather drive straight to the trailhead that is also fine\, just let Mr. Moffat know so we will know to look out for you at the trailhead.  The drive to the trailhead is about 1.5 hours\, so we should get to the trailhead around 7:30 and gear up and start hiking shortly thereafter.  Bring your 10 essentials and plenty of water.  Please also bring some cash as we may stop for lunch on the way home. \nDirections to the Vincent Gap/Mt Baden Powell trailhead: \nFrom 210E freeway merge on to I-15N.Go approximately 15 miles on I-15N to the Highway 138 exit.Turn left onto Highway 138.Go almost 9 miles to Highway 2\, Angeles Crest Highway.Turn left onto Angeles Crest Highway and go almost 14 miles to the trailhead.It is recommended that you place an Adventure Pass on your mirror when parking at the trailhead.

DESCRIPTION:My name is Nolan Shwery and I am a Life Scout and a senior at St. Francis High School. My Eagle project will be taking place on August 27-28\, 2016 at Monrovia Canyon Park in the Mal Packer Mesa” grounds. During my years in Boy Scouts\, I have had many great experiences hiking\, camping\, and backpacking and doing this project is a great way for me to give back to the outdoors. We will be building 3 new picnic tables and also planting some new Coast Live Oak trees to preserve the environment in the surrounding area. Lunch\, snacks\, and drinks will be provided of course! If you can attend for either the whole day or part of the day\, your help will be greatly appreciated.
