SUMMARY:Kern River Whitewater Campout
DESCRIPTION:Kern River Whitewater CampoutThe annual Kern River Rafting trip will be held on Memorial Day Weekend (May 26-28). We will arrive at the Sierra South rafting outfitters in Kernville early Saturday morning. We will board buses and ride up the river for a rafting run. We get back on the buses and run the river again. Then we have lunch and work on the whitewater merit badge. After that we travel up the river 30 min. to Camp Whitsett (a BSA camp in the Sequoia National Forest). We make camp and spend the afternoon working on scout skills. That evening we have a formal campfire at which we retire an American flag with an official ceremony. The next morning we go on a five mile hike and work on some more scout skills. We relax and enjoy the afternoon. A campfire that evening concludes the trip and we break camp early on Monday morning and head home.

DESCRIPTION:Looking to put in some activity before an afternoon of watching football?  Come out and join Mr. Moffat and some of our Troop leaders to work on First Class Signoffs 1 and 2.  Bring your compass\, your Scout handbook and a pen or pencil. \nWe will meet at the flag poles in Lacy Park.  Enter the park through the EAST entrance on Virginia Road.  The gates between the Scout House and Lacy Park will be locked. \nWe will complete an orienteering course\, and work on compass skills\, meauring heights\, widths\, how to find your way without a compass etc.  These requirements are tough to get on a campout\, and impossible to get at the Scout House\, so if you need these signoffs\, this is a great chance to get them.

DESCRIPTION:This Sunday morning\, Troop 355 Hiking and Camping Merit Badge Counselor Mr. Laudeman will lead a hike up Echo Mountain\, a resort ruin 2.75 miles above Pasadena. \nTrailhead: The top of Lake AvenueDistance: 5.5 milesStart Time: 7:00 a.m. SHARP!Finish: Approx. 10:00 a.m. \nBring 1 liter of water and high carbohydrate snacks consisting of approximately 400 calories. \nThis hike will meet the conditioning hike requirement for Hiking Merit Badge\, the 5 mile mile hike requirement for Second Class\, count as a Troop activity for Second Class and First Class\, and partially fulfill the active requirement for Star\, Life and Eagle. Scouts working on Star\, Life\, and Eagle will have the opportunity to organize the Scouts and lead the hike\, thereby earning partial credit for the leadership requirement. \nAny and all adults willing and nearly able to participate in hikes this year should email Mr. Laudeman to plan future hikes.

DESCRIPTION:The annual Scout Expo will be held at the Santa Anita Race Track Infield.  Scouts from all levels will present various booths\, scout skills and activities.  This is a great event for new Scouts\, and a good patrol activity – several merit badges will be offered.  Be sure to bring two or three signed blue cards if you  intend to earn merit badges – you can pick up the signed blue cards at our May 20 troop meeting\, or anytime from the bin in front of Mr. Moffat’s house.
