DESCRIPTION:Troop 355 Mt Wilson Family Trail Hike \nOn Saturday\, December 11\, at 7:00 AM\, Troop 355 will hike the Mt. Wilson Trail.  Moms\, Dads and family are all welcome.  All children who are not registered 355 scouts must be accompanied by a parent. There will be two hikes available on the same trail.  One trek will hike to Orchard Camp and return for a moderate 7 mile out and back hike.  The other trek will head for the Mt. Wilson Summit.  This is a strenuous 14 mile round trip hike.  The first 7 miles gain 4750 feet. It is generally considered a 6-8 hour hike. See the attached map for the route.  We will meet at the trailhead at 7:00\, buddy up\, and hike at 7:15. The trail and camp are in the Sespe Wilderness and managed by the Los Pinos Ranger District of the Los Padres National Forest.  There is a swimming hole at camp! \nDIFFICULTY:  This hike is 4.7 miles each way on the Gene Marshall trail with 1\,150 feet of elevation gain.  This is a moderately difficult hike.  A beginner will struggle if he is not physically strong. If you would like to go but have never backpacked with Troop 355\, please call Mr. Chase to discuss.  This is a great trip to prepare for Philmont this year or for those that want to go to Philmont next summer.  \nCOST:  $10 per person.  Deadline to confirm your spot is Monday night\, June 20.  Bring your check made out to BSA Troop 355 to the Board of Review or mail to:Ron Chase1090 Medford RoadPasadena\, CA  91107 \nAVAILABILITY:  This trip is for experienced backpackers.  It is not a good trip for first time backpackers.  We will have a beginner backpack trip in the Fall. SUMMARY:Kern River Whitewater Campout
DESCRIPTION:Kern River Whitewater CampoutThe annual Kern River Rafting trip will be held on Memorial Day Weekend (May 26-28). We will arrive at the Sierra South rafting outfitters in Kernville early Saturday morning. We will board buses and ride up the river for a rafting run. We get back on the buses and run the river again. Then we have lunch and work on the whitewater merit badge. After that we travel up the river 30 min. to Camp Whitsett (a BSA camp in the Sequoia National Forest). We make camp and spend the afternoon working on scout skills. That evening we have a formal campfire at which we retire an American flag with an official ceremony. The next morning we go on a five mile hike and work on some more scout skills. We relax and enjoy the afternoon. A campfire that evening concludes the trip and we break camp early on Monday morning and head home.
