SUMMARY:San Marino Independence Day Parade - Click for Details and Note the Time Change
DESCRIPTION:Ever wanted to march in a parade? This is your chance. Troop 355 has been asked to provide scouts to carry the banners in the San Marino Independence Day Parade. We will meet at the Cheveron Gas Station at the corner of Huntington Drive and Monterey Road at 3:00 p.m. on July 4. Wear your Class A uniform without sash. The parade will end by about 5:00 p.m. If your family will not be attending the July 4 celebration at Lacy Park\, you can meet your parents after the parade at the Virginia Road entrance to Lacy Park. If your parents will be in Lacy Park\, you can meet them at the flag poles on the east side of the park. If you will be participating in our Salesmanship Merit Badge sales event\, stick around after the parade – we will start selling the glow necklaces at the flag poles at 5:30. Two hours of community service will be given for participating in the parade.

SUMMARY:Salesmanship Merit BadgeClick for Details
DESCRIPTION:Troop 355 is very lucky to have Mr. Jeff Riemers lead the Salesmanship Merit Badge again this year. Mr. Riemers will teach the class in two sessions. Scouts must attend both sessions to earn the badge. First will be a classroom session on Saturday\, June 29 from 9:00 a.m to 10:30 a.m. at the Scout House. No uniform is required for the Saturday class. The second session is a field experience to sell red\, white and blue glow necklaces at Lacy Park on July 4. The glow necklace sales will be from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in Lacy Park\, after the parade and before the fireworks. Class A uniforms are required. No sash please. We will meet right after the parade at the flag poles on the east side of Lacy Park. Then we will start selling those glow necklaces – and we will see who can sell the most. You can sign up for this merit badge at our May 20 or June 3 troop meetings\, or you can email Mr. Moffat to get on the list.

SUMMARY:Tenderfoot Sign-Off Meeting
DESCRIPTION:After the First Aid Meeting\, the Hawk and Wolverine patrols will work with our Instructors\, senior scouts and ASMs on some Tenderfoot signoff requirements. Other newer scouts who have not yet reached Tenderfoot are welcome to attend and get the signoffs they need. It will be a great opportunity to get a few Tenderfoot requirements before the summer starts\, which will make it easier to achieve the Tenderfoot rank at Cherry Valley or in September. You can work on any of the Tenderfoot requirements that you need – please review these in your handbooks before the meeting so you will be able to master the skills quickly at the meeting. If there is sufficient interest\, we can continue this meeting past 7:00 p.m.

SUMMARY:First Aid Sign-Off Meeting
DESCRIPTION:All new scouts are invited to come work on their First Aid signoffs. Hawk ASM Mr. Sivad will be teaching the First Aid signoffs for the Tenderfoot\, Second Class and First Class ranks. This is a great opportunity to get these signoffs before taking the First Aid merit badge at Camp Trask or Cherry Valley – it is a prerequisite of the First Aid merit badge to complete these signoffs. Scouts in both of our new patrols are encouraged to attend\, plus any other scouts who still need to complete these signoffs. Please review the First Aid worksheet and instructions sent by Mr. Sivad.

SUMMARY:Cesar Hernandez' Eagle Project Click for Details
DESCRIPTION:Hello Troop 355! \nI will hopefully be wrapping up my Eagle Scout Project this weekend. If I get enough scouts to participate I will be able to wrap up my hour requirement\, and be one step closer to achieving Eagle Scout. It would mean the world to me if you can help me finish one of the final pieces needed to completing my scouting career. Please read below for the details that you need to know: \nOn Saturday June 1 from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM we will be at the Petco on Rosemead and Huntington Dr (7262 Rosemead Blvd\, San Gabriel\, CA 91775). We will be handing out donation drive wish lists from San Gabriel Valley Humane Society. Hopefully this will allow us to bring in the necessary supplies that will allow San Gabriel Valley Humane Society to care for the stranded pets and animals that they encounter. Please come in your Class A uniform\, no sash. Snacks\, drinks\, and lunch will be provided. \nThis will be an amazing opportunity for you to help the San Gabriel Valley Humane Society. They contribute so much of their time to helping animals in need\, and this is our chance to help these selfless volunteers as well as the animals. Any amount of time that you can contribute will be greatly appreciated. If you are interested in attending\, please contact me so that I can have a rough estimate of how many volunteers I will have and plan accordingly. Thank you for reading my e-mail and I hope that you all have an amazing summer as well as an amazing experience throughout your scouting adventures. \nCesar David Hernandez

SUMMARY:Kern River Whitewater CampoutClick for Details
DESCRIPTION:The annual Kern River Rafting trip will be held on Memorial Day Weekend (May 25-27). We will arrive at the Sierra South rafting outfitters in Kernville early Saturday morning. We will board buses and ride up the river for a rafting run. We get back on the buses and run the river again. Then we have lunch and work on the whitewater merit badge. After that we travel up the river 30 min. to Camp Whitsett (a BSA camp in the Sequoia National Forest). We make camp and spend the afternoon working on scout skills. That evening we have a formal campfire at which we retire an American flag with an official ceremony. The next morning we go on a five mile hike and work on some more scout skills. We relax and enjoy the afternoon. A campfire that evening concludes the trip and we break camp early on Monday morning and head home. This is the first camping trip with our new scout patrols\, and a great way for them to start off with Troop 355.

SUMMARY:SPARC Passport to Charities Event - Click for Details
DESCRIPTION:This coming Saturday SPARC (Student Philanthropists Advancing Real Change) will hold its 3rd Annual Passport to Charities event. This is the largest charitable gathering in one place in all of Los Angeles and it takes place on the football field at Maranatha High School. We need ten scouts (a couple of Dads would be great too) to help us set up 60+ pop-up tents (like the ones you see at soccer games) from 6:30am – 8:00am. Starbucks will be serving hot chocolate/coffee and providing muffins and cake to fuel our work. A number of our Scouts are SPARC participants so come support them if you can. No uniform required\, but wear a Class B to identify yourself as a Troop 355 member to the community. Community service hours will be granted for your help at this event. \nAll Troop 355 Members and Families are welcome at the event starting at 11:30am. There will be 50 local charities present that you can meet and learn about what they do for our community; plus Pie and Burger will be serving lunch. It’s a great event if you need to find an organization to secure volunteer hours for school\, identify an Eagle project\, or just want to learn more about our community. \nI hope you will join us for one or both of the set up and the event itself. Set-up participants (and their families) may stay and meet with the Charities at 9am with the SPARC participants if you wish. \nPlease email our Community Services Director Mr. Jaffrey at jdj@coronalmanagement.com if you can help us out with the morning set-up.
