DESCRIPTION:Kern River Whitewater CampoutThe annual Kern River Rafting trip will be held on Memorial Day Weekend (May 28-30). We will arrive at the Sierra South rafting outfitters in Kernville early Saturday morning. We will board buses and ride up the river for a rafting run. We get back on the buses and run the river again. Then we have lunch and work on the whitewater merit badge. After that we travel up the river 30 min. to Camp Whitsett (a BSA camp in the Sequoia National Forest). We make camp and spend the afternoon working on scout skills. That evening we have a formal campfire at which we retire an American flag with an official ceremony. The next morning we go on a five mile hike and work on some more scout skills. We relax and enjoy the afternoon. A campfire that evening concludes the trip and we break camp early on Monday morning and head home.

DESCRIPTION:Tenderfoot Physical Fitness Session #1The Tenderfoot physical fitness requirement has always been a stumbling block on the way to Tenderfoot. It requires a 30 days interval between part one and part two. Do your best to make this event so we can get this done before Camp Cherry Valley. For those who can’t make session 1\, we will do another session 1 while the first group does session 2 in June. We will meet on Thurday night May 19 at the Scout House at 6:30\, walk into lacy park\, complete the physical requirements (push ups\, sit ups\, long jump\, chin ups\, and a 1/4 mile run) and sign the handbooks. We should be done by 7:30.Notes:Be on time we wont wait for long!Wear clothes and shoes for running.Do not wear your scout uniform!Bring your Scout Handbook! Thats where we will record your acheivement.

If you did not have a chance to sign up\, but would like to take the class\, please contact me at mshwery@earthlink.net so that I can add you to the class roster.  \nOur first class will be on Monday\, March 28 at 6:30 PM at the Scout House.  \nPlease see the class information below so you know when we will be meeting\, what to bring\, what is expected of you\, and when each of the assignments are due. Please note that the assignments are DUE on the class date they are listed under. There is work to be done before the first class meeting\, so be prepared to start work on this badge immediately. This is not a difficult merit badge to earn\, but it does require some planning and staying on schedule in order to complete the work. \nI look forward to meeting everyone at the first class session. DESCRIPTION:Troop 355 Jalama Beach Final Instructions \nDepart:  Leave town\, Saturday April 30th at 8:00 from carpool’s designated meeting area \nReturn:  Break Camp Sunday\, May 1st at 10:00 (latest checkout is 1:00PM) \nFood:  Eat breakfast at home\, Sack Lunch on Saturday or eat at the camp store.Patrols will cook Saturday dinnerPatrols will cook Sunday BreakfastWe are in two camps close to each other.  Camp D has running water\, Camp C does notBoth camps have picnic tables and fire pits \nBring:  Swim suits\, beach towels\, wetsuits\, footballs\, basketballs\, volleyballs\, Scout Handbook\, a little money to waste at the camp store\, and firewood!   Check the car camping gear list.  It will be 	cold at night so be sure to bring your cold weather clothes. \nCarpools:  We are limited to 16 Cars. Try to organize your ride:  See the trip roster for current drivers.Extra cars can park outside the camp and walk in \nStore Website:  www.jalamabeach.com   \nWetsuit Rental:  There are no wetsuit rentals at camp. Take Jalama road Exit\, turn left\, carefully drive the winding14 mile road to the Jalama Beach Campground.  Note:  Jalama beach only allows reservations for their group sites.  People may be waiting for the individual sites.  We are Camping in Group areas C and D \nCampsite notes: It is up to the ranger as to whether or not we will be able to set up camp before the 2:00 PM checkup time\, but I think that they will let us check In to campsite D right away because it is unoccupied on Friday night.  Camp C is occupied Friday night and we will have to wait until those campers check out before we set up.  If C is occupied we will leave the campsite C gear in camp D and set up at 2:00.  If they have checked out early\, we will set up camp C when we arrive.
