SUMMARY:Carpentry Merit Badge
DESCRIPTION:The Historic Centennial Carpentry Merit Badge has been brought back by BSA to celebrate the 100th aniversary of scouting in the United States. \nHere is your chance to earn one of the four Historic Merit Badges offered only during the BSA Centennial celebration this year. Troop 355 will offer the Carpentry Merit Badge which was first offered in 1911 and discontinued in 1952. The class will be held at Dr. Snaer’s workshop on Sunday\, December 5 from 9:00 to 4:00. \nDirections to Dr Snaer’s house.. 2605 South Oak Knoll\, San MarinoFrom Huntington Drive:South on GranadaLeft on AftonRight on South Oak Knoll2nd House on the right\, 2605626 840-7702 \nThe cost is $15.00 per Scout and is due Friday\, November 26. Make checks payable to “Troop 355” and mail to: \n Ron Chase 1090 Medford Road Pasadena\, CA 91107 \nThe cost includes all materials for a “Wii Accessory Tote” patterned from the “Tool Box” project in the 1928 Carpentry Merit Badge book. Lunch will be served! Can you imagine\, a once in a lifetime chance to earn a Centennial Merit Badge\, build and take home a masterpiece AND eat lunch. What a great value! \nHere are a few important points: \n No walk-ups: since I have to buy lumber for each Scout that participates\, I need the payment in full by Friday\, November 26 \n No late arrivals: you must arrive no later than 9:00 as the merit badge will take all day. \n No partials: you must complete all requirements during the class. \nWe had outstanding interest when I announced this opportunity on Monday night. Attached is a list of Scouts that signed up. If you did not sign-up\, there is room for you. Just send me an e-mail and then send me your check for $15. \nThank you\,Mr. ChaseAssistant ScoutmasterRising Eagles PatrolTroop 355

SUMMARY:Cycling Merit BadgeWritten Test reviewClick For Details
DESCRIPTION:Merit Badge Candidates: \nOK\, the toughest physical part of the badge is now over\, but I still need each of you to complete the written test and fill out a blue card. My thought on this is that you will get more out of the test if you first complete them at home and then we grade them together. So this is what we are going to do. On Monday\, November 29\, we will get together at the Scout House at 6:00pm for pizza\, completion of blue cards\, and grading of your completed tests.

SUMMARY:50 Mile Solvang Bike RideCycling Merit Badge
DESCRIPTION:The Cycling Merit Badge involves dedication to a systematic\, physically demanding\, and time consuming regimen with an ultimate goal of completing a 50-mile ride. While this badge will require more time and physical output\, many who have completed it claim it is their most cherished badge for exactly that reason – it was tough to get. Listed below are some of the requirements and event timing so that you can plan accordingly. It would be a good idea for candidates to do a couple of 5-mile rides around their neighborhood on their own to get ready for our first formal ride which will be a 10-miler. Please BE PREPARED for the following: \nBlue CardsI need for each candidate to furnish me with a filled out “Blue Card” so that I can sign off on the requirements as you complete them. This is an essential part (as it is for all merit badges) of the record-keeping process and must be done in order for you to receive your badge. Please get them to me no later than September 30. \nSolvang Prelude ApplicationsThe normal registration fee is $45 per rider\, but I was able to get a $5 discount per rider\, so your cost will be $40. The bad news is that we need to commit and get our applications in by the end of September. I will provide copies of the application (can also download from www.bikescor.com) at the first ride. I will need your completed application and check by September 26th\, so that I can submit all the applications for our troop as a group on September 27th. \nWritten TestA written test will be taken on the night before the Solvang Prelude ride. It will consist of about 50 short answer questions (most from the merit badge book) and should be relatively easy if you have read/studied your merit badge book and know your Boy Scout First Aid. You must get at least 80% correct to pass. \nSchedule of Events \nSunday\, September 26 5-Mile Ride (San Marino)	Meet @ Scout House 7:30am \nSunday\, October 3 10-Mile Ride (Rose Bowl) Meet @ Scout House 7:30am \nSunday\, October 10th 15-Mile Ride (Linda Vista)	Meet @ Scout House 7:30am \nSunday\, October 17th 25-Mile Ride (Desc. Garden)	Meet @ Scout House 7:00am \nSunday\, October 24th 25-Mile Ride (Sacred Heart)	Meet @ Scout House 7:00am \nSunday\, October 31st 32-Mile Ride San Gabriel River Meet @ Scout House 7:00am \nSaturday\, November 6th	Solvang Prelude 50-mile Ride \nTo Be Arranged by appt.	Any make-up requirements \nEagle RequirementThis badge is an eagle requirement if you have not already earned the Hiking or Swimming merit badge. Among other things it requires a minimum of 200 miles of cycling. You will do a few more miles and ride more challenging routes in my program\, not because I like to torture you\, but because I want you to be in shape to complete the 50-milers comfortably and without incident. \nMark Osgood Cycling Merit Badge Leader 626-799-1466 \nJohn Osgood Cycling Merit Badge Counselor

SUMMARY:Cycling Merit BadgeMechanic ClinicClick for Details
DESCRIPTION:For those of you seeking the Cycling Merit Badge\, I have arranged a bicycle mechanic clinic at Pasadena Cyclery (1670 E. Walnut\, Pasadena\, CA) on Tuesday\, November 2 at 7:00 pm. It will last about an hour to an hour and a half. Your will learn how to properly adjust and lubricate your bike\, fix flat tires\, and do basic routine maintenance. This is a requirement for the badge so I expect all candidates to attend. While the shop will be closed to the public\, it will be open for us if you need to purchase any last minute supplies for the Solvang ride. The owner is a Scoutmaster for another troop so he gives all boy scouts discounts on their purchases.
