DESCRIPTION:TROOP 355 INTRODUCTORY BACKPACK TRIPANGELES NATIONAL FOREST LITTLE JIMMY TRAIL CAMP \nWHEN: Saturday\, September 16 and Sunday\, September 17\, 2017 \nWHERE: Islip Saddle to the Little Jimmy Trail Camp along the Pacific Crest Trail in the Angeles National Forest. A classic Boy Scout backpacking trip. After setting up camp\, we will leave our packs and summit Mt. Islip for an incredible view of the San Gabriel Mountains. \nDIFFICULTY: The hike to Little Jimmy is 2.1 miles each way on the Pacific Crest Trail. There is about a 900 foot elevation gain on the hike into camp. We will take the hike slow and easy. This is perfect for first time backpackers. If you can carry a duffle bag\, you can do this trip. It is a great trip for those who want to get involved in our backpacking program\, and who may wish to go to Philmont in the future.COST: $10 per hiker. Deadline to confirm your spot is Monday night\, September 11. Bring your check made out to BSA Troop 355 to the August 28 Backpacking Seminar or the September 11 troop meeting\, or mail to: \nKelly Moffat2280 Adair StreetSan Marino\, CA 91108 \nAVAILABILITY: This is an introductory backpack. Everyone is welcome. If you have ever had an interest in backpacking\, this is the opportunity to try it!  The troop will host a backpacking seminar on Monday\, August 28 at 7:30 PM at the Scout House. Come learn what to pack. \nMEET: At the Scout House at 6:30 AM on Saturday\, September 16. We will divide troop gear and food then depart for the trailhead. The trip to the trailhead is about 11⁄2 hours. We should return to the trailhead Sunday morning by 11:00 AM and be home by 1:00 PM. \nMEALS: Eat a big breakfast on Saturday morning before the trip. Otherwise you may bonk! Bonking is not cool\, it hurts. Don’t bonk! Bring your own trail lunch Saturday\, and bring your own breakfast for Sunday morning (energy bars\, oatmeal\, breakfast skillets). The troop will provide Saturday’s dinner\, as well as all the cooking gear you may need. I will be doing my Eagle Project on Saturday\, August 19th and Sunday\, August 20th. \nMy Project will take place at Broadview Nursing Facility. We will be digging 68 holes and putting in 68 hedge plants. After\, we spreading bark and fertilizer all around two different courtyards. DESCRIPTION:Hello Troop 355! \nMy name is Matthew Yam and I am a rising senior at Harvard-Westlake high school. I will be carrying out my eagle project the weekend of August 12-13 at the Pasadena Ronald McDonald House\, and I would greatly appreciate your help! \nThe Ronald McDonald House is a non-profit organization that houses families caring for sick children in need of hospital attention until the family can get back on their feet. Once families are ready to support themselves\, a new family moves in.  \nMy project will consist of improving the backyard by refinishing a wooden swing set and replanting planter boxes with fresh fruits and vegetables. We will also teach the kids how to grow and tend to their own plants. The motive here is to upgrade the backyard enough so that the kids will have incentive to play there.
