SUMMARY:Spring Backpack Trip #2 - West Fork Click for Details
DESCRIPTION:TROOP 355 SPRING BACKPACK TRIPANGELES NATIONAL FORESTWEST FORK TRAIL CAMP \nWHEN: Saturday\, April 1 and Sunday April 2\, 2017 \nWHERE: Red Box Ranger Station to the West Fork Trail Camp along the Gabrielino Trail in the Angeles National Forest. For most of the hike we will be following the west fork of the San Gabriel River. West Fork Trail Camp is located at the junction of two classic trails – the Gabrielino Trail and the Silver Moccasin Trail. \nDIFFICULTY: The hike is 5.3 miles each way. We will hike almost all downhill on Saturday – there is a total elevation loss of about 2000 feet from Red Box to West Fork. On Sunday\, we will hike back up the 2000 vertical feet to Red Box – you will definitely earn those root beers! \nAVAILABILITY: This is an intermediate backpack trip\, but on the advanced side of intermediate. We will take it fairly slow\, but this will be significantly more difficult than our recent Piedra Blanca trip or our introductory backpack to Cooper Canyon last fall. This trip is not recommended for first time backpackers – instead\, we would recommend that you join us on our introductory backpack trip next fall. \nCOST: $10 per person. Deadline to confirm your spot is Monday night\, March 27. Bring your check made out to BSA Troop 355 to the Troop Meeting\, or mail or deliver to: \nKelly Moffat2280 Adair StreetSan Marino\, CA 91108 \nMEET: At Scout House at 7:00 AM on Saturday\, April 1. We will divide troop gear and food\, then depart for the trailhead. The trip to the trailhead is about 45 minutes. We will return to the trailhead Sunday morning about midday and be home by 2:00 PM. \nMEALS: Eat a big breakfast on Saturday morning before the trip. Otherwise you may bonk! Bonking is not cool\, it hurts. Don’t bonk! Bring your own trail lunch Saturday\, dinner will be provided Saturday night (Philmont style)\, bring your own breakfast bars\, instant oatmeal\, cocoa for breakfast on Sunday. Saturday’s dinner will be prepared by individual crews. Crews will be announced before the trip by email. \nEQUIPMENT: Please review the troop backpacking checklist on the Resources page of the troop website to make sure you have all the gear you will need. The troop leaders are always available to discuss equipment – please contact any of them if you have questions about gear for the trip. \nSPECIAL NOTES: It might be cold (high 40s) at night\, be prepared with long johns and a beanie hat to sleep in\, a good sleeping bag\, a jacket and gloves. Of course always bring your rain gear! Bring bug repellent. And…bring toilet paper. BE PREPARED. \nWATER: Everyone should carry 2-3 liters of water for the hike down to West Fork (either in plastic or nalgene bottles or a Camelbak style water bladder). We will be able get additional drinking and cooking water at camp – but it needs to be filtered\, so every tent should have a water filter (you can borrow from another scout or dad if you don’t have a filter). \nDirections to the Red Box Trailhead: There is a large parking lot at the trailhead. However\, it is always a good idea to carpool. Fill your car up with Scouts and backpacks. Take the 210 west to the Angeles Crest Highway 2 north. Drive approximately 14 miles to the parking lot at Red Box Station. Turn right onto Mount Wilson/Red Box Road\, then immediately right or left into one of the two parking areas on either side of the road – the left (east) parking lot is closest to our trailhead. Any cars parking will need a National Forest Adventure Pass available at your sporting goods store or REI – hang your Adventure Pass on your rear view mirror.

SUMMARY:Christopher Jung's Eagle ProjectPasadena Buddhist ChurchClick for Details
DESCRIPTION:Dear Troop 355\, \nMy name is Christopher Jung and I am currently a Junior at Loyola High School. I will be doing my Eagle Scout project this weekend on March 25th and 26th. \nMy project will be held at the Pasadena Buddhist Church. Long story short\, my basketball team has been using their facility for a long time since we were 5 years old\, so I would like to give back by creating a resting area for the guests and the organization. At the site\, we will build two picnic tables and coat them with a hazel brown stain. In addition\, I will be removing an extensive area of weeds/dirt and replace them with stone gravel. We will be working on these two parts simultaneously. \nIf you happen to have shovels and gloves\, please bring them if possible. \nFood: Donuts\, Pizza\, Chips\, and Drinks \nAddress: 1993 Glen Ave\, Pasadena\, CA 91103 \nClothing: Clothes you can get dirty in (Shoveling and Painting). Closed toe shoes. \nTime: 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. (Saturday) \n 1:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m. (Sunday) \nIf you plan to come\, please email/text me the day and time you plan to attend. Your support is deeply appreciated. \nThank You \nChristopher Jung \nCell: (626)898-3877

SUMMARY:Donnan Laudeman's Eagle ProjectPasadena History MuseumClick for Details
DESCRIPTION:Dear Scouts\, \nMy name is Donnan Laudeman and I will be doing my Eagle Scout Project on March 18. I am currently a sophomore at Loyola High School and a member of the Grizzly Bear patrol in Troop 355. \nMy project will be taking place at the Pasadena History Museum. We will be re-doing the pillars at the front entrance as well as cleaning up a nearby garden. We will strip the wood off the pillars and place new wood on and paint them. For the garden we will be removing weeds and dead plants. Once done with that we will put wood chips in the garden. \nThere will be two groups: one for the pillars and one for the garden. The pillar group will consist of older scouts because we will be using power tools. The garden group will consist of both younger and older scouts. \nDate/Time: March 18\, 8:30am – 4:30pm \nClothing: Work clothes that you can get dirty. Also wear close toed shoes and work gloves. \nFood: We will have doughnuts in the morning and pizza for lunch. We will provide drinks and snacks. \nLocation: 470 W Walnut St. Pasadena\, CA 91103 (Corner of Walnut and Orange Grove) \nPlease let me know if you can be there on Saturday. I hope you can help out! \nThank you\, \nDonnan Laudeman \nCell: (626)807-8763
