DESCRIPTION:The Imperial Valley Navy League sponsors this truly unique opportunity to watch the Blue Angels – the United States Navy’s flight demonstration squadron – in their final practice sessions before heading out on tour for the air show season. \nWe will arrive late Friday night and camp on the El Centro Naval Air Base. Saturday morning we will eat breakfast on the tarmac and watch the show. Following the show\, we will race go carts on the base and return for the second show. This is a great chance to see the show in front of a very small crowd (around 200 people). Most years we are given the opportunity to meet the pilots after the second show. SUMMARY:Spruce Grove Hike:  Cancelled due to Weather Conditions
DESCRIPTION:This is the second hike in our Spring Hiking MB series – the classic Spruce Grove loop!  Meet at the Scout House at 6 a.m. sharp.  We will divide into carpools and drive to the trailhead at Chantry Flats.   \nPlease note that this is a fairly rugged 10 mile hike – we will be gaining (and losing) about 2500 feet of elevation on this hike.  A 10 mile hike is much more difficult than a 5 mile hike\, so please be prepared!  Bring your 10 essentials\, including at least 3 liters of water.  Pack a lunch and trail snacks – we will eat an early lunch on the trail.   \nIf you would rather meet at the trailhead instead of at Scout House\, you could try that – to get to Chantry Flats go east on the 210\, exit at Santa Anita in Arcadia\, turn left\, then go 5 miles directly to Chantry Flats (the last 3 miles are on a windy mountain road).  Meet us at the beginning of the trail down to Sturtevant Falls\, near the entrance to the trailhead\, around 6:45 a.m. – we hope to start hiking before 7.  Note that paking is very limited at Chantry\, you may need to park down the road\, so allow time for that.

DESCRIPTION:Hello scouts and families of Troop 355\, \nMy name is Matthew Castro and I am going to be doing my Eagle Scout Project this weekend at the Huntington Library’s Experimental Ranch Gardens. Here’s the run down: \nWho am I? \nA little about myself\, I am currently a Life Scout\, a senior in high school\, and one of your current ASPL’s. You see at almost all of the troop meetings.  \nWhen is your Eagle Project? \nThis weekend from February 4th (9AM to 3 or 4PM) to February 5th (9AM to 1 or 2PM). I understand that the Super Bowl is on Sunday and I will make sure that we finish up for the day a couple of hours or an hour before the game. That should be enough time for you to get home and enjoy the game. \nWhat will we be doing? \nWe will be in the Ranch Gardens weeding out the area\, checking and replacing parts of the irrigation system if necessary\, cardboard mulch the area\, and top the area off with organic mulch. \nWhere will we meet? \nOn Saturday and Sunday\, we will meet at the entrance of the Huntington Library\, at the cafe or ticketing area\, where all the tables are at 9AM. For those showing up later\, you can ask the staff where the Ranch Gardens are and they can direct you there. Just make sure you tell them you are here with the Boy Scouts. There should also be signs posted up directing you there. However\, you can always send me a text and I will send a scout or I will meet you at the entrance and walk you to the work area. \nDo I have to bring anything? \n All tools will and safety equipment will be provided by the Huntington Library\, however if you have a pair of work gloves\, bringing them would be ideal. Also\, food and refreshments will be provided by me.  \nAdditional Info: Since the work space is a little big\, it would be much appreciated to have as many scouts to come out and help. For those who are going to show up\, please email me at mattcas88@gmail.com that you will be coming out so I have a rough estimate of how many scouts I will have attending. DESCRIPTION:Troop 355 will be offering all the hikes required for Hiking Merit Badge this spring.  We hope that a number of our scouts will be inspired to earn the rarely achieved Hiking MB.  Feel free to come on out to hike with the troop on some or all of these hikes (provided that the later more difficult hikes are recommended for senior scouts and experienced hikers. \nThe first required hike is a 5 miler – so we will be doing our classic Echo Mountain training hike.  \nThe Echo Mountain hike is 5.2 miles round trip\, and it provides a great workout with over 1300 feet of elevation gain. We will spend some time at the Echo lookout\, enjoying the views and the old railway and hotel ruins\, then hike back down to the trailhead. All scouts and parents are welcome on this hike – this is a great hike for both experienced and newer scouts. If you have not yet had the chance to get the Second Class 5 mile hike signoff\, this will be a great opportunity to do that. Bring your 10 essentials plus your scout handbook for the signoffs. Most importantly\, please do not forget to bring 1-2 liters of water.  \nWe will meet at 6:30 a.m. at the top of Lake Street in Altadena\, where Lake meets Loma Alta – we will be gathering at the stone gate on the east side of the street. We should be finished between 9:30 and 10:00 a.m.

DESCRIPTION:Hello scouts and families of Troop 355\, \nMy name is Matthew Castro and I am going to be doing my Eagle Scout Project this weekend at the Huntington Library’s Experimental Ranch Gardens. Here’s the run down: \nWho am I? \nA little about myself\, I am currently a Life Scout\, a senior in high school\, and one of your current ASPL’s. You see at almost all of the troop meetings.  \nWhen is your Eagle Project? \nThis weekend from February 4th (9AM to 3 or 4PM) to February 5th (9AM to 1 or 2PM). I understand that the Super Bowl is on Sunday and I will make sure that we finish up for the day a couple of hours or an hour before the game. That should be enough time for you to get home and enjoy the game. \nWhat will we be doing? \nWe will be in the Ranch Gardens weeding out the area\, checking and replacing parts of the irrigation system if necessary\, cardboard mulch the area\, and top the area off with organic mulch. \nWhere will we meet? \nOn Saturday and Sunday\, we will meet at the entrance of the Huntington Library\, at the cafe or ticketing area\, where all the tables are at 9AM. For those showing up later\, you can ask the staff where the Ranch Gardens are and they can direct you there. Just make sure you tell them you are here with the Boy Scouts. There should also be signs posted up directing you there. However\, you can always send me a text and I will send a scout or I will meet you at the entrance and walk you to the work area. \nDo I have to bring anything? \n All tools will and safety equipment will be provided by the Huntington Library\, however if you have a pair of work gloves\, bringing them would be ideal. Also\, food and refreshments will be provided by me.  \nAdditional Info: Since the work space is a little big\, it would be much appreciated to have as many scouts to come out and help. For those who are going to show up\, please email me at mattcas88@gmail.com that you will be coming out so I have a rough estimate of how many scouts I will have attending. You can also text me at (626)-378-8238\, but just make sure you include your name. You do not need to contact me to show up and help. This is just to get an estimate of people that will be coming. For those planning to park\, make sure to show up before 11:00AM.
