SUMMARY:Brad Loomis' Eagle ProjectFoothill Oaks AcademyClick for Details
DESCRIPTION:My name is Brad Loomis and I will be doing my Eagle Project on July 30 and 31. I will be a senior at Loyola High School and I am a current Life Scout in Troop 355. \nMy Eagle Project will take place at Foothill Oaks Academy in Duarte. The fence is rusted in multiple areas including some sections where the rust perforates the iron completely. My project is restoring the the fence by sanding down the rusted metal and patching up to perforated spots. Following the restoration\, the fence will be painted in order to protect the fence from further damage. \nJuly 30: We will focus on sanding and patching up holes followed by starting the painting \nJuly 31: We will finish up the project completely by finishing up the painting \nDates and Times: July 30\, 9:00am – 6:00pm and July 31\, 10:00am – 5:00pm \nLocation: Foothill Oaks Academy\, 822 Bradbourne Ave. Duarte\, CA \nParking: People may park on the street or preferably park on the Junior High black top \nFood: Lunch\, drinks\, and snacks will be provided \nSunscreen will also be provided but you should bring your own if you can. We will also have a few easy-ups for shade. \nClothing: We will be sanding and painting so I suggest comfortable clothes that you do not mind getting a little bit dirty. Because it is July\, it will be hot so a t-shirt and shorts are suggested. A hat would be a smart idea as well. \nPlease text (preferred)\, call\, or email me telling me who you are and to let me know what day and which hours you will be volunteering\, so I will be able to plan everything out. \nThank you\,Brad LoomisText / Call: Cell (626)-616-8149 or Home (626)-256-4569Email: bradleyloomis@lhsla.org

DESCRIPTION:My name is Matthew Bazarevitsch and I will be doing my Eagle Project on July 23rd and July 24th. I will be a senior at St. Francis High School and I am a current Life Scout in Troop 355. \nMy Eagle Project will take place at Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy in La Canada. We will be refurbishing 300 feet of a railing and planting a drought-tolerant garden. This is a popular hangout spot during breaks at school\, and it will be important to refurbish the railing to get rid of the rust\, and make the area look nicer. \nOn July 23rd\, we will focus on the refurbishing of the railing. We will be sanding off the old paint and rust\, and repainting the 300 feet of railing. Depending on the amount of people in attendance\, we may also begin working on the garden. \nOn July 24th\, we will focus on the drought-tolerant garden. Right now\, it is a plain stretch of hard dirt. We will begin by turning the soil and putting fertilizer in it to soften it. When the soil is ready\, we will be planting drought-tolerant (and deer-tolerant) plants. When all plants are planted\, we will finish off the garden by placing a layer of mulch. The garden will complement the railing as we liven up the entire area! \nDates and Times: July 23-July 24\, 9:00am – 5:00pm both days \nLocation: Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy\, 440 St. Katherine Drive\, La Canada\, CA 91011 \nParking: There is a parking lot across the street from the project. It will be on the right side of the road as you begin to approach the school \nFood: Lunch\, drinks\, and snacks will be provided \nSunscreen will also be provided. We will also have a few easy-ups for shade. \nClothing: We will be sanding\, painting\, and planting\, so I suggest comfortable clothes that you do not mind getting a little bit dirty. Because it is July\, it will be hot so a t-shirt and shorts are suggested. \nPlease text (preferred)\, call\, or email me telling me who you are and to let me know what day and which hours you will be volunteering\, so I will be able to plan everything out. \nThank you\,Matthew BazarevitschText / Call: (626) 429-6053Email: mattbazarevitsch@yahoo.com

SUMMARY:Matt Bazarevitsch's Eagle ProjectFlintridge Sacred Heart AcademyClick for Details
SUMMARY:First Aid Signoff Session - Click for Details
DESCRIPTION:ASM Darryl Sivad has graciously offered to lead a First Aid Signoff Session this upcoming Monday\, July 11\, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.\, at the Scout House. We will cover all the First Aid signoffs for the Tenderfoot\, Second Class and First Class ranks. All scouts who need to complete these signoffs are welcome and encouraged to attend. This is a great opportunity to get these signoffs all at once – it can take a long time to work through these bit by bit at campouts and at troop meetings. \nWe especially encourage our scouts who will be taking First Aid Merit Badge at Cherry Valley (or at Camp Trask) this summer to attend this signoff session. The first requirement of First Aid Merit Badge is to complete all these signoffs\, so it will make it much easier to complete the merit badge if you obtain the required signoffs in advance. But it will also be very helpful for any other scout who needs these signoffs to get these completed – this will help you move towards your next rank advancement and free up time on your next campout to work on other things\, or to just have fun. So if you are available on Monday\, we hope all of you who need these signoffs can attend. \nPlease bring the following required items to the class session: \n1. Your Scout Handbook and a pen – so your signoffs can be recorded. The session will be designed to cover the required signoffs for both handbooks our scouts are using – the 2016 Handbook that our new scouts have\, plus the older handbook that our other scouts have. \n2. Please print and staple pages 8-13 from the First Aid Merit Badge Worksheet – these pages list all the First Aid Signoffs for Tenderfoot\, Second Class and First Class. You can fill out these pages as we go through the material – when you take the First Aid Merit Badge\, it will be a great help to have these completed pages with you. The First Aid worksheet can be printed from the troop website (click Resources then Merit Badge Requirements)\, or from the following link: First-Aid \n3. Please prepare and bring a small personal First Aid kit; this is a requirement for the Tenderfoot signoffs. It does not have to be large\, just a few items that you would take with you on a hike or troop outing\, in case of blisters\, cuts\, headaches\, etc. Your personal first aid kit is also required gear for Cherry Valley\, and all your future campouts. These kits are readily available at outdoor stores like REI\, or at pharmacies\, or you can prepare your own – putting the proper materials in a ziplock bag would be fine. If you do purchase a commercial first aid kit\, you should customize it to suit your particular needs (put in your preferred headache medicine\, add moleskin\, etc.). \nI would also ask that you come prepared to give Mr. Sivad and any assistants your best attention – we will have a lot of material to cover; if everyone is prepared and pays attention\, we should be able to complete all the required signoffs. \nIt would be great if a couple of senior scouts could assist Mr. Sivad in demonstrating some of the first aid techniques and help sign the handbooks – this would be a great leadership opportunity for those who are looking for one. Please let Mr. Moffat know if you would like to help on Monday. \nNo uniforms required\, wear your Class B shirts if you have them.
