SUMMARY:Independence Day Parade - Click for Details
DESCRIPTION:We will meet at the Chevron gas station at 4:15 p.m. on Saturday\, July 4\, on the corner of Huntington Drive and Monterey Road. We will distribute wristbands (see note below on wristbands) to our scouts at that time. We will then be assigned our banners\, and the parade will begin about 4:45 p.m. We will march down Monterey Road to Virginia Road\, then enter Lacy Park where the parade will end. Parents and siblings are welcome to follow along with the parade on the sidewalk\, or just meet your scouts at the end of the parade. Dress for the parade is full Class A uniform without sash. Service hours will be granted to our parade marchers. \nGlowstick Sales Event – Following the parade\, our scouts in the Salesmanship Merit Badge class will complete the badge by selling glowsticks in Lacy Park. Scouts who are not in the Merit Badge class are also welcome to participate. We will meet at the flagpoles on the east side of Lacy Park (near the Virginia entrance) when the parade ends\, and start selling – this should be about 6:00 p.m. The sales event should last until about 7:00 p.m. Dress for the sales event is full Class A uniform without sash.  \nWristbands – Please note that everyone will need a wristband to enter Lacy Park on July 4. Scouts who march in the parade will receive wristbands when they check in before the parade. If you are participating in the sales event\, but not marching in the parade\, it would be best if you get your wristband prior to the parade on the 4th. \nFamily members who wish to go into Lacy Park should obtain their own wristbands. If you will not be entering the park but wish to pick up your scout after the parade or sales event\, plan to meet your scout at the Virginia entrance to Lacy Park.

There is a swimming hole at camp! \nDIFFICULTY:  This hike is 5.4 miles each way on the Cedar Creek Trail with over 1\,200 feet of elevation gain and loss each way.   This is a moderately difficult hike. \nAVAILABILITY:  This is the final backbacking shakedown for Philmont 2015\, and the Philmont trekkers would like to invite other veteran Troop 355 backpackers to join them.  This trip is for experienced Troop 355 backpackers.  It is not a good trip for first time backpackers.  We will have an introductory backpack trip in September.  This trip to Fishbowls is an excellent opportunity to prepare for Philmont this summer and for other Troop 355 scouts and dads who have enjoyed backpacking with us in the past and would like to get more involved with our backpacking program\, and who may be interested in attending Philmont in the future.  \nCOST:  $10 per person.  Deadline to confirm your spot is Monday night\, June 22. SUMMARY:Ad Altare Dei Award\, Parents Meeting-Click for Details
DESCRIPTION:Troop 355 is strong in its diversity; we have both secular and religious families\, and everyone is welcome in our Troop.  Whatever our respective backgrounds\, we all are united in the Scout Law\, which states that a Scout is reverent.  He is reverent and respects the convictions of others in matters of custom and religion.  If you are interested\, please visit the BSA website for more information on the Religious Emblems Programs: http://www.scouting.org/scoutsource/Awards/ReligiousAwards.aspx. A number of Scouts have expressed interest in earning the Catholic religious emblem\, which is called the “Ad Altare Dei” emblem.  The AAD emblem is one of two for Catholic Boy Scouts\, and Scouts must have completed sixth grade to start.  The AAD program does not substitute regular Catholic religious education; it is intended to supplement it.  If you are interested\, please note that that classes will begin this Summer and our part of the program will end before the March 2016 Board of Review in Glendora.  The AAD award will be presented in May 2016 at the Cathedral in downtown Los Angeles.  The AAD program is administered through the Los Angeles Archdiocese; Allan Labrador and I will serve as the adult leaders for Troop 355. SUMMARY:Philmont Training Hike:  Echo Mountain.  All scouts and parents are invited - click for details
DESCRIPTION:Echo Mountain is the classic training hike for our Philmont trekkers – it is a 5.2 mile hike round trip\, and it provides a great workout with over 1300 feet of elevation gain.  The Philmont 2015 trekkers will be hiking Echo on Sunday morning\, and all scouts and parents are welcome to join us.  This would be a great hike for any younger scout thinking of getting more involved in our hiking or backpacking program\, especially for those who missed Kern – scouts will be able to get the 5 mile hike signoff on this hike.  Bring your 10 essentials plus your scout handbook for the signoffs.  We will meet at 6:55 a.m. at the top of Lake Street in Altadena\, where Lake meets Loma Alta.  We will be finished between 10:00 and 10:30 a.m.

SUMMARY:Kern River Whitewater Campout - Click for Details
DESCRIPTION:The annual Kern River Rafting trip will be held on Memorial Day Weekend (May 23-25). We will arrive at the Sierra South rafting outfitters in Kernville early Saturday morning. We will board buses and ride up the river for a rafting run. We get back on the buses and run the river again. Then we have lunch and work on the whitewater merit badge. After that we travel up the river 30 min. to Camp Whitsett (a BSA camp in the Sequoia National Forest). We make camp and spend the afternoon working on scout skills. That evening we have a formal campfire at which we retire an American flag with an official ceremony. The next morning we go on a five mile hike and work on some more scout skills. We relax and enjoy the afternoon. A campfire that evening concludes the trip and we break camp early on Monday morning and head home. This is the first camping trip with our new scout patrols\, and a great way for them to start off with Troop 355.
