Our first 10 mile hike will be this Saturday\, April 20. We will meet at 6:15 a.m. at the top of Lake Street in Altadena (where Lake meets Loma Alta). We should return to the trailhead around 11:30 a.m. \nThis hike will take us up past Echo Mountain – we will follow the ruins of the Mt. Lowe railway route over Las Flores canyon\, then up to the site of the famous Grand Circular Bridge. We will gain over 2000 feet of elevation. \nIf you have only done 5 mile hikes with the troop in the past (like at Kern and CCV)\, please note that a 10 mile hike will be much tougher and more demanding. But\, this is a fairly moderate hike (our other 10 milers in 2019 will be tougher)\, so if you are in decent hiking condition and want to try a 10 miler\, this would be a good opportunity to do so. \nEvery hiker should bring their 10 essentials. Water (2.5 to 3 liters recommended) and sun protection will be especially important. Bring trail snacks and/or a light lunch. Good hiking boots are strongly recommended. Bring your compass (and map if you have one)\, as we will be working on our navigation skills during the hike. \nThis hike will count as one of the three required 10 mile hikes for Hiking MB. If you would like to earn this badge\, it would be great if you could make the hike. Or if you are not sure about the badge\, but just want to get out and hike this weekend\, feel free to join us. For those interested in earning this MB\, we’ll send out more info regarding the badge requirements soon.
