Troop 355 News & AnnouncementsWelcome to the Troop 355 website. We hope you like it. If you have a suggestion to make it better please share it with our Scoutmaster Ron Chase or our Committee Chair George Hotaling. We are in the process of finalizing the troop's calendar for the 2011-2012 school year. If you have an idea for an outdoor activity, know an interesting speaker that would work well at one of our meetings, or are interested in helping our scouts earn a merit badge please call Ron Chase or George Hotaling. About Troop 355Troop 355 is the largest of four troops in the City of San Marino, California. We are part of the Rose Bowl District and the San Gabriel Valley Council. We welcome boys from all our local communities to join in the fun. Troop 355 utilizes the patrol method and an outdoor program to provide a platform that challenges our scouts to build their self confidence, self reliance and hone their leadership skills. We also maintain an active merit badge program that provides access to a wide verity of merit badges. Troop 355 also participates in lots of lots of community service opportunities. Troop 355 Scouts pursue rank advancement at their own pace. Once they complete the requirements for a particular rank they are responsible for requesting their scoutmaster conferences and Board of Review to demonstrate their mastery of required skills and experiences. Many of our scouts have demonstrated the dedication, service and leadership required to earn the rank of Eagle Scout. Troop 355 meets twice a month on Monday nights in the San Marino scout house during the school year and goes camping once a month. In the past few years Troop 355 has gone backpacking, fishing, gliding, hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking, river rafting, rock climbing, sailing, skiing and surfing. Each summer we attend a week of summer camp on Catalina Island and typically send a contingent of scouts on a ten day backpacking trip to the Philmont Scout Ranch in the mountains of northern New Mexico. Last summer we also sent 34 scouts on to the National Jamboree in Fort AP Hill Virginia to celebrate the one hundredth anniversary of Boy Scouting in the United States.
