Troop 355 annual Kern River Rafting trip 

Dates: Memorial Day Weekend (May 25-27). 

Location:

Camping style: Car camping

Packages are as follows:

1. Merit Badge Rafting (Full Day) – $250 – Includes lunch and wetsuit rental
2. Class IV Rafting (Full Day) – $330- Includes lunch and wetsuit rental
3. Camping only (no rafting) – $30

Registration deadline: April 15^th.   

We will meet at the highly rated Sierra South Mountain Sports early Saturday morning for a full day of exhilarating whitewater rafting. After rafting, we make a short drive up the river to Camp Whitsett (a secluded BSA camp in the majestic Sequoia National Forest. There we will set up camp and spend the rest of the trip in the tranquil outdoors fostering scouting skills, eating, and enjoying each other’s company. On Sunday, we go on a scenic five-mile hike and work on some more scouting skills (and year-end sign offs). Sunday evening, we will hold a ceremonial campfire where we retire an American flag honoring those who have sacrificed their lives for our country. Shortly thereafter, the next Troop 355 Scoutmaster will be announced. Monday morning, we break camp and head home reminiscing of all the great keystone memories that were made over the weekend. 

Important points when signing up (please read):

1. Due to the limited number of whitewater rafting spots, spots will be given first come first serve. We have 10 spots reserved for the merit badge rafting trip and 10 spots reserved for the class IV rafting trip.  If this is your first-time whitewater rafting- the merit badge trip is recommended.  For those thirsting for more adventure, the class IV trip is a level up from the merit badge trip. If we surpass capacity, we will contact you. We will do what we can to try to obtain you a spot, but once our troop’s reservation capacity is reached- we cannot guarantee a rafting spot-this depends on entirely on the availability of guides and rafts at Sierra South Mountain Sports. 

2. If you are a parent/guardian attending, you must be registered with the Troop and have all pre-requisites completed (youth protection training, livescan, health clearance form, etc). This is a great trip to go with your scout.

3. If you plan to send your scout alone- please arrange transportation prior to registering your scout for the trip. Arranging transportation is the responsibility of the scout/scout’s parent.
